Description

The market has corrupted the practice of art. Are artists today uniquely vulnerable to the tastes of the market and transient fashion or was it ever thus? Does success damage artists compelling them to feed the market or can they retain their independence and values?

Provocations is a series of discussions about art and its function and place in today’s society. They are intended to stimulate ideas, opinions, exchanges and connections between artists practicing in Newcastle and the North East and those who are interested in questions about what art is for, is it capable of being a force for change or has its potential been fatally limited by a dominant neo-liberal market economy
